Wilson Benesch Greenwich Turntable Launch. Wilson Benesch, March 19, 2026

GREENWICH TURNTABLE.
THE FOUNDATION OF THE WILSON BENESCH GMT® ANALOGUE ARCHITECTURE.

The Greenwich Turntable establishes the entry point into the GMT® platform, built around the ALPHA–OMEGA direct drive architecture shared with the Prime Meridian and GMT® One Turntables.

A Unified Analogue Architecture

The Greenwich Turntable is designed as the foundation of the Wilson Benesch GMT® Collection analogue architecture. Built around the OMEGA Direct Drive motor platform and controlled by the ALPHA Drive electronics, Greenwich shares the same core drive foundation as the Prime Meridian and GMT® One turntables, while structural and isolation systems evolve through the range.

Greenwich integrates seamlessly with the GRAVITON® Ti tonearm and may be configured with the TESSELLATE Ti cartridge, R1 Carbon Rack, and VTA Control System to form a complete Greenwich System. In this way, owners can enter the platform at Greenwich and evolve progressively through the GMT® hierarchy while preserving the core ALPHA–OMEGA drive platform and asso

ALPHA Drive

The ALPHA Drive provides the electronic control system for the OMEGA Direct Drive motor platform. Developed specifically for the GMT® turntable architecture, the ALPHA Drive generates quartz-referenced multi-phase sine wave signals that govern the synchronicity of the motor’s electromagnetic field.

By delivering precisely controlled current to each motor pole, ALPHA ensures exceptionally stable rotational behaviour and accurate speed control without the need for complex feedback correction.

All GMT turntables are supplied with the GMT Control App, operated via a dedicated tablet interface. The application allows users to select playback speeds (33, 45 and 78 RPM), start and stop the turntable and perform fine speed trim adjustments in 0.1 RPM increments.

When equipped with the VTA Control System, the ALPHA Drive also manages tonearm lift and lowering functions and enables ultra-precise vertical tracking angle adjustment through a piezo-controlled mechanism with nanometre-scale resolution. Users can store and recall multiple VTA positions directly within the control interface.

The VTA Control System is an optional upgrade for the Greenwich Turntable, while it is integrated as standard within the Prime Meridian and GMT® One turntables.

While the ALPHA Drive shares a common architecture across the GMT® platform, additional control modules are integrated in higher GMT models to support expanded system functions, including the pneumatic isolation control systems used in the GMT® One turntable.

OMEGA Drive

The OMEGA Direct Drive motor was developed specifically for the GMT® analogue platform through a collaborative research programme involving Wilson Benesch engineers and academic partners from Sheffield Hallam University. Supported by Innovate UK funding, the project brought together expertise in electro-magnetic engineering, dynamic electromagnetics, coil winding and precision manufacturing.

OMEGA employs a slot-less synchronous motor with a circumjacent radial force architecture, eliminating cogging and reducing torque ripple to extremely low levels. The design delivers smooth, stable platter rotation without the noise and vibration associated with conventional belt, idler or traditional direct-drive systems.

At 15 inches in diameter, OMEGA is the largest motor ever developed for a turntable. The large-scale architecture significantly improves motor efficiency and rotational stability compared with the small motors typically used in direct-drive designs.

The motor incorporates 21 precision-wound coils and 14 NdFeB magnets, arranged to create an exceptionally uniform magnetic field that governs rotor synchronicity without requiring complex speed compensation.

A magnetic counterforce system reduces the effective dynamic mass acting on the Angstrom bearing. This ensures Hertzian contact forces remain within safe limits while allowing efficient energy transfer from the motor to the platter and surrounding structure.

The result is a drive platform delivering exceptional rotational precision, extremely low torque ripple and silent operation. OMEGA forms the common foundation of the Greenwich, Prime Meridian and GMT® One turntables.
