Further information (without guarantee): Sony's broadcast DAT recorders, known as PCM, reflect Sony's continued preference for tape-based PCM formats. These devices can be found in almost every production facility worldwide and offer precise synchronization within just 1 ms. Personally, I have used each of these variants several times and they are always a pleasure to use. It's unfortunate that Sony hasn't continued the jog/shuttle function on some of its high-end decks like Panasonic did with the SV-4100. The differences between the three versions lie in the optional boards they are equipped with and which boards they are compatible with. That being said, the PCM-7010 doesn't have the chase or insert capabilities, for example, nor does it have the 16Mbps stereo memory for quick boot and sound scrubbing without actually using the band. In terms of stability and reliability, these devices are 100% designed for broadcasting, so there's no need to worry: they're rugged and can be roughly handled, as we've come to expect from DigiBeta decks. The PCM-7000 recorders work reliably no matter what. There was also a later version called the PCM-7040, and it is said that the most "musical" model in the series was the smallest: the PCM-7010.
