Original from BTB - no self-assembly kit!!Almost new, without any significant signs of wear. The BTB EL12N is a new single-ended tube amplifier designed as the successor to the successful CL6 single-stroke amplifier from Klang + Ton 3/2019. While the CL6 worked with a smaller power tube, which is no longer available, the EL12N relies on the more powerful EL12N, a robust GDR pentode made from old stock. This enables a significantly higher output power of up to just under 10 watts in single-stroke operation, which makes it more flexible in its choice of speakers. The tubes are all from old production and therefore independent of current supply bottlenecks. The ECL84 is used as a precursor, a combination tube with a triode and pentode system in a glass bulb. The housing concept was adopted from the CL6, as was the use of low-cost switching power supplies and cost-effective output transformers. A rectifier tube is no longer used, as it is superfluous anyway due to the switching power supplies. The circuit includes three feedbacks – a cathode feedback, a global over-all feedback, and a local feedback for the driver part – resulting in excellent technical values. The frequency response is linear from 20 Hz to over 20 kHz, the channel separation is 81 dB, the external voltage ratio is 84 dB. The maximum output power is around 9 watts at 3% distortion, the distortion factor at 1 W is 0.11%. In the listening test, the EL12N proves to be a tight and precise sounding amplifier that comes closer to expensive high-end devices such as the Thivan Labs 811 Anniversary than its predecessor CL6. The latter sounds warmer and softer, while the EL12N is clearer and more dynamic – and at a fraction of the price. Conclusion: A consistently developed self-build project with excellent sound quality and very good power output, which surpasses its predecessor in many respects.

Während der CL6 mit einer kleineren, mittlerweile nicht mehr lieferbaren Endröhre arbeitete, setzt der EL12N auf die leistungsstärkere EL12N, eine robuste DDR-Pentode aus Altbeständen. Diese ermöglicht eine deutlich höhere Ausgangsleistung von bis zu knapp 10 Watt im Eintaktbetrieb, was ihn flexibler in der Lautsprecherwahl macht. Die Röhren sind allesamt aus alter Produktion und daher unabhängig von aktuellen Lieferengpässen. Als Vorstufe kommt die ECL84 zum Einsatz, eine Kombiröhre mit Trioden- und Pentodensystem in einem Glaskolben. Das Gehäusekonzept wurde vom CL6 übernommen, ebenso wie die Verwendung günstiger Schaltnetzteile und kosteneffizienter Ausgangsübertrager.
